Lifeline Hellas offered us the opportunity to feel a part of their community at their wonderful Captain’s dinner yesterday, the 26th of July, at Yacht Club Greece, in the presence of Crown Princess Catherine and Crown Prince Alexander, in aid of the Neonatal Intensive Care Units of the State Children’s Hospital in Greece.
The Princess and founder of the organisation gave a touching speech about the valuable action of the organisation and their recent achievements, the importance of which cannot be put into words. Lifeline organisation, with offices in New York, Chicago, Toronto, London and Athens, has played a significant role since its foundation in 1993 in supporting children in need, by raising money for medical equipment, improving communication between students and experts from foreign countries, and many more crucial activities.
We had the pleasure to meet prominent figures of the shipping and non-shipping world – among them Mr N. Tsakos, Mrs I. Daifa, The Minister of Maritime Affairs Mr Kouroublis, Mr Angelopoulos and many more respected personalities. The beautiful evening was coloured by the sublime voices of leading artists of The Greek National Opera – Mrs Giannakou, Mrs Aggelopoulou, Mr Giamouris and Mr Karagiaouris. The surprise of the event was little Alexandros, grandson of Princess Catherine; a music prodigy! He performed excellently ‘Sway’ and ‘To miden’ and stole the show!
A beautiful balcony with the unique view of the fountain of life – the sea – where humanity, shipping and art were met to celebrate the symbol of life: the child. We would like to thank Dr Zisis Boukouvalas and the Board of Directors for offering us such a magical evening, and we wish them blessings for continuing their outstanding social contribution.
Those opportunities are chances to remind us that sometimes, even our presence can create change for the better. As Mother Teresa stated, ‘I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.’
